An eye shield helps prevent rubbing or pressure on the eye until it has healed. Eye shields are commonly used after surgical procedures on the eye, including LASIK and cataract surgery. Place the eye shield over the eye with the curved side against your nose. 2. Put the shield in place with the tape across the top of the shield. The tape should go from the middle of your forehead to the middle of your ear. Holes in the eye shield provide ventilation, and it designed for use over either eye. While home, you may be allowed to remove your eye shield, but you should wear it when sleeping for at least a week to prevent eye injury. Full recovery from cataract surgery should be complete in about a month, although it can take up to three months for your eye to be completely healed
