Description & Tasting Notes Munster is a very well-known and well-loved soft ‘stinky’ cheese from the region of Alsace-Lorraine. As Munster matures the surface of the cheese is regularly rubbed with brine to encourage the development of a sticky orange crust and pungent aroma. It has a smooth, sometimes runny texture and assertive flavours of cured meats and porcini mushrooms with an intense, savoury finish.Other Notes & Serving Suggestions Off-dry, aromatic white wines with a touch of sweetness like Gewürztraminer and Riesling are perfect partners for this cheese. Serve on a cheese platter accompanied by fennel seed crackers – they are delicious with soft, pungent cheeses. It can also be used in the classic Alsace recipe Tarte flambée au Munster.
