Catarratto is native to the island of Sicily where it is the most widely planted varietal, and the 4th most widely grown grape varietal in Italy – the varietal actually makes up 34% of the total grape vineyard area in Sicily alone! Catarratto exists as 2 types – Catarratto Bianco Comune and Catarratto Bianco Lucido where they are distinguished from one another by the presence or absence of a white bloom on the skin of the grapes as they mature. While predominately used as a blending grape Catarratto can produce full flavoured wines with layered citrus characters. This wine presents a straw-yellow colour with greenish reflections plus a delicate bouquet, caressed by notes of flowers such as iris, fruit and a hint of citrus.
